Meet Genysia Brown

Genysia Brown is a theatre director dedicated to amplifying the unique and nuanced stories of historically underrepresented communities through the use of identity conscious casting in her work. Directing gives her the opportunity to work in fellowship with other communities to amplify and authentically represent their experiences. Her directing credits include Fairview, The Gulf, and The Waiting Period.
Genysia was recently a director in Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s Emerging Professional Residency. In her time at Milwaukee Rep, she assistant directed Come From Away (dir. Mark Clements), A Christmas Carol (dir. Mark Clements), and The Piano Lesson (dir. Lou Bellamy). Last summer, Genysia assistant directed All’s Well That Ends Well at New Swan Shakespeare Festival under the direction of Rob Salas. She is also the casting and voice director for Not Half Bad Games’ debut project.
Genysia graduated in June 2025 from the University of California, Irvine with a B.A. in Drama and honors in Directing. From 2023-2025, she served as Co-President of Black Door Theater Company, UC Irvine’s only theater company dedicated to supporting artists of the African Diaspora and their stories.
