Meet Genysia Brown

Genysia graduated from the University of California, Irvine in June 2025 with a B.A. in Drama and Honors in Directing.

Genysia Brown is an theatre director based in Southern California, dedicated to amplifying the unique and nuanced stories of historically underrepresented communities. Directing gives her the opportunity to work in fellowship with other communities to amplify and authentically represent their experiences.

Genysia recently graduated from the University of California, Irvine in June 2025 with a B.A. in Drama and Honors in Directing. Genysia has been Co-President of Black Door Theater Company, UC Irvine’s only theater company dedicated to supporting artists of the African Diaspora and their stories. Her acting credits at UC Irvine include Stall: A Play in One Bathroom, Student Voices Project, and You Will Find Yourself in this Coffee Shop.

Since graduating, Genysia assistant directed All’s Well That Ends Well at New Swan Shakespeare Festival under the direction of Rob Salas. She is also the casting and voice director for Not Half-Bad Games’ debut project. In the Fall, Genysia will begin her role as a Directing Resident at Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s Emerging Professionals Residency. Genysia is a collaborative and insightful director who is looking forward to this experience.
